Robbery possible motive in Malabar murder

Homicide investigators are watching footage of the murder of a 32-year-old St Augustine man in Malabar on Wednesday night and believe robbery was the motive.

Police said Kelvin Rennie went to Ackbaralie Extension, Malabar, on Wednesday night to meet someone when someone tried to rob him and he was shot in the head. He died hours later at the Arima Hospital. He is the country’s sixth murder victim for this year.

Rennie’s murder was the fourth committed on Wednesday. At 10.30 pm, Kelvin Rennie was shot in Malabar and later died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope. At 9.30 pm, Keenan Primus, 22, was stabbed to death on Bushe Street in Curepe. Two boys, aged 16 and 17 have been held for this murder.

At 7.30 pm, Kyron Bartholomew aka Beetlejuice was shot dead in Calvary Hill, Arima. Other murder victims for this year are Samuel Sookdeo who was shot dead in Couva on Tuesday and the first recorded homicide for this year was Daniel Mahabir who was beaten to death with a rock on New Year’s Day. His body was found in Concession Drive, Sea Lots.
