THE rivalry between the Daren Ganga XI and the Brian Lara XI will resume tomorrow, with the Daren Ganga Foundation’s (DGF) 3rd annual charity T20 match at the Daren Ganga Recreation Ground in Barrackpore.

The match, which bowls off at 12.30pm, will feature Windies legends Lara and Dr Shivnarine Chanderpaul as well as past and current men’s and women’s players including Samuel Badree, Dinanath Ramnarine, Anisa Mohammed and Merissa Aguilleira.

The annual match-up, which has become increasingly popular, is free to the public. The teams, which will be announced on match-day, will be selected from players who have made a financial contribution towards the foundation’s efforts.

Ganga, the chairman of his Foundation, said this year’s event will hold even more significance as it will break the tie and give bragging rights for the winners.

“I am very excited about this third edition of the DGF’s charity T20 match. It’s all locked at 1-1 between Brian and I, and this match will see one of us having the edge over the other when the dust settles. It’s always good fun playing against Brian and my former teammates in front of my home crowd and I guarantee spectators will be thoroughly entertained. I thank all those who contributed, as all proceeds benefit my Foundation’s scholarship programme.”

The event has also attracted the interest of the business community with M Seebalack Hardware Limited and Reboot Sports Drink as title sponsors of the event. Alpha Transport Limited of Barrackpore is the silver sponsor. Caribbean Lifestyle Communications is the official broadcast partner of the DGF.

An exhibition T10 match between Barrackpore United and Raw Fitness Victoria Sports Club will begin the day’s activities at 9.30am. There will be food and drinks available at the match venue.
