Police wait on Deputy DPP

POLICE are awaiting instructions from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honore-Paul on whether to charge four men for the murder of 20-year-old De-Shawn Parson.

South Western police arrested the suspects on December 22, in a house at Aripero Village, Rousillac, hours after Parson was fatally stabbed. The suspects were wearing clothes smeared in blood at the time of their arrest. Parson, 22, lived at Fanny Village, Point Fortin.

Yesterday, legal officer PC Kyrn Lewis and other police from the Homicide Investigations Bureau (Region III) submitted a file to the Office of the DPP having interviewed several people and viewed CCTV footage. Once charged, the suspects will appear before a Point Fortin magistrate.

Cpl Harripersad is leading investigations. On December 22, at about 2 am, Parson and friends went to buy burgers at a cart at Main Road, Point Fortin, when several men started to pelt glass bottles.

During the fracas, Parson was stabbed in his head and shoulder. Parson’s friend Kerdell Joseph, 20, and Joseph’s father Lennox, 47, in defending themselves, were also stabbed. The attackers then left. Parson died on his way to the San Fernando General Hospital. The father and son received medical care at the Point Fortin Area Hospital and were discharged hours later. At about 10.30 am the same day, Snr Supt Basdeo together with Insp Nemai and other police led the exercise and arrested the suspects. Cpls Carter and Bajan and other police from Point Fortin CID, South Western Division Task Force and Homicide Bureau assisted in the exercise.
