Rough sailing for TT in 2019

THE EDITOR: My new crystal ball for 2019 says it can be assumed that the problems with the Tobago sea bridge will not disappear. Determined minority interests will keep both ferry boats sabotaged at regular intervals.

Do not hold your breath, my crystal ball says.

The crystal ball sees the trade unions continuing to willfully have the tail wagging the government dog. Take the teachers, for example, who do not want to be responsible for children before or after school hours.

If the Minister of Education offered a tax-free extra $1,500 per week in overtime, there will be no further arguments. Or alternatively he can offer the monitoring job to willing unemployed parents.

The local farming fraternity needs to get its act together regarding condition and pricing of local commodities. We all have a taste for foreign goods because we can see the superior quality in packaging and production. Apples and grapes are not supposed to be cheaper than local fruits and vegetables, are they?

There should be three categories when compiling homicide statistics – domestic violence, gang retaliatory deaths and shootings by the police.

With regard to crime and the Commissioner of Police, we cannot turn the clock back on what we asked of the CoP. He made no promises to stroke cheeks when confronted by danger.

It is now hypocritical to allegedly cry foul.
