UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has responded to the Opposition party’s critics who say the party is not electable by reminding them that the UNC was the only party to have increased its votes in the 2016 local government election.

She said the party had done over 200,000 man hours of footwork, data analysis and gathering since it lost the 2015 general election and was now confident that it would win the next two elections by “evolving and ushering in a new generation of young people guided by sound political experience.”

Local government election is due to be held in 2019 with the general election in 2020.

She was addressing the party’s “End of Year celebration” at the Couva South Hall, Camden Road, Couva on Sunday night.

“I am deeply concerned about the direction which our country is heading under this (Dr Keith) Rowley administration. As for our part, we have engaged the people to hear their concerns and to develop working solutions to address the problems facing our country.

“To date, I must let you know that over 200,000 man hours of work, analysis and gathering data was carried out by your party – the UNC. The result of some of this analysis can be seen in the results in the 2016 local government election where the UNC gained the most votes in that election as compared to every other party. So when some may say to you the UNC is not electable, you hear lie, that is lie.”
