Fyzabad man killed by police

A Fyzabad father of two was shot and killed by a police in a bar in Vessigny on Sunday night.

Dead is Kyle Thompson, 23, of Dubarry Trace.

A police report said that at about 9.30 pm Thompson and a group of friends were liming at the bar when he and another patron had an argument. and police responded to a report of a disturbance and a man brandishing a gun at the bar.

When police arrived a group of men began throwing glass bottles at them. One officer pulled out his gun and Thompson was shot in the chest, the report said.

He was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

However, when Newsday visited Thompson’s home, relatives accused the police of attempting to cover up the killing and said Thomas was innocent.

One woman who wished not to be named said the policeman who shot Thompson was liming in the bar in plainclothes, approached Thompson and did not identify himself.

"He just grabbed him and of course Thompson did not know that was a police and he fought back trying to defend himself and the police pulled out his gun and shot him. They are covering it up.” the emotional relative said.

She said the family would not rest until justice is served.

The family, she said, is now seeking legal advice.

“We are not going to leave this just so. He was murdered by the hands of a police. They took a father from two children. He has two children, a one-year-old and a fou -year- old. This is madness.”

Thompson. originally from San Fernando. had only moved to Fyzabad to live with relatives two months ago.

Senior police said they are watching CCTV footage of the killing as investigations continue.

A video of Thompson lying in front of the bar and female customers screaming is also circulating on social media.
