Calypso Fiesta, one of San Fernando’s premier events for the Carnival season, will take place at its traditional venue as renovation work at Skinner Park is not scheduled to begin until after Carnival.

The park is due to undergo extensive renovation as part of a redevelopment project.

During the 2019 budget presentation, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said the work will “ensure that our national community will have access to the premier multi-purpose complex which will be used by schools and communities to host numerous sporting and cultural activities.”

In a WhatsApp message yesterday, San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello said the renovation would begin after Carnival, so shows such as Calypso Fiesta and Chutney Soca Monarch Finals could still be staged there.

The Calypso Fiesta is scheduled to be held on February 23.

Meanwhile, south-based calypsonian Steve Pascal (Ras Kommanda), said TUCO has scheduled a meeting on January 12 to discuss a new date for the Calypso Monarch finals.
