SWRHA saddened by young doctor’s death

CEO of the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) Keith Mc Donald has offered condolences to the relatives and friends of accident victim Dr Rajeev Robin Bahall, who began working at the San Fernando General Hospital just two weeks ago.

"On behalf of the SWRHA and the Minister of Health, we express our sincere sympathy to his family and friends. We are deeply saddened to hear about his passing."

Bahall was a temporary house officer, Mc Donald told Newsday.

He began work at the hospital on December 13 and his contract would have ended on February 28 next year. Mc Donald said he was assigned to the paediatric and neonatal unit and was previously an intern at the hospital.

Reports are the 26-year-old was driving his BMW car on the north-bound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway near the traffic lights at Factory Road, where the car crashed into concrete barriers. On impact, he and his car were cut in half.

The accident happened at about 1.15 am on Friday. During the crash, the engine of the car was flung out and was found several metres away. No one else was injured.

Immediately afterwards, people began taking videos of the dismembered body which they posted on social media.

When Newsday visited the family’s home at Lange Park, Chaguanas, relatives declined to speak.

Chaguanas police are investigating.
