Siparia couple in court

A SIPARIA couple charged with having in their possession over $15,000 worth of marijuana which was found hidden in the trunk of their BMW car on Christmas eve yesterday appeared before a Justice of the Peace in Siparia.

The charge was read to the 33-year-old man and 25-year-old woman by Justice of the Peace Chandaye Darsoo alleged that the couple had drugs in their possession.

According to a police report, on Monday police were on patrol when they spotted the car parked along Villabrera Street in Siparia. Upon seeing the police van, the driver began to reverse the BMW at high speed. In an attempt to escape, he crashed into a car parked near the road which belonged to an off-duty policeman. Police gave chase and the man and woman were detained.

When police searched the car they found the drugs hidden in the trunk.

The woman was granted $25,000 bail at the station her partner was remanded into police custody.

The case was adjourned to Monday.
