Invite Volney,Ramesh to be part of theplanned party

THE EDITOR: Basdeo Panday once said that politics has a morality of its own. I have certainly come to realise that this is absolutely true and to believe that those opposition old-timers or stalwarts can unite despite all the mud-slinging and name-calling of the past.

Since the purported intent is to include and expand the stalwarts to a new horizon, and it appears they are going to forgive and forget, then they should at least consider stretching their hands out to Ramesh L Maharaj.

Obviously there is strength in unity and if they are planning in burying the hatchet with Jack A Warner and others, then Maharaj should be given the same opportunity by the organisers of the new party and consideration should be also given to Hubert Volney.

There is more evidence to support the initiative for, as Warner mentioned, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad at 92 fought and won another term.

Also, John Compton of Saint Lucia returned at the age of 80 with his United Workers Party and won the general election in December 2006. His political roots were embedded in the sugar belt of 1954 just like Panday in the past.

Nonetheless, this new initiative to pull TT out of its stagnation and disarray is possible and with good governance the country can be moved forward.

Unfortunately, most of the current UNC/PP politicians are convinced that it has lost its capability to win the next general election.

The New York diaspora is once more ready to mobilise our troops to support and raise funds for the new party – and yes we can.
