SIX-MONTH-OLD Terron Taylor Baird did not live to celebrate his first Christmas with his family, but he has booked a place in Heaven.

“His place is booked already, what about you? If Jesus is to come now, are you ready,” asked Rev Dr Robin Rambally. He officiated at the funeral on Monday, Christmas eve, at the Open Bible Church at Coconut Village, Carapichaima.

A small group of mourners gathered to bid the final farewell to the baby fondly called Fatty. Dressed in white he laid peacefully in a tiny blue and white coffin. On top of the coffin were two toys and a bouquet of flowers.

Rambally told mourners that deaths can happen at any time saying God made everyone with a purpose. People on earth live for a short time in comparison to eternity.

“He is a God of intention. He had an intention in mind when he made mankind,” Rambally said. Terron’s mother, Jewel Hamilton, 29, found him stuck between the bed and a wall last Wednesday at the family’s home at Waterloo Road, Carapichaima. One of her sons, Jeremiah, shouted to her that Terron was unresponsive.

The mother of four had earlier fed, burped and put the baby to sleep on the bed which she secured with pillows to prevent him from falling.

The baby was rushed to the Couva Health Facility where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy found he died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). According to the Centers for Disease, Control and Prevention (CDC), SIDS is the sudden, unexpected death of a baby younger than one year that does not have a known cause even after a complete investigation. These deaths often happen during sleep or in the baby’s sleep area. Jeremiah took several photos of the body as mourners consoled his weeping mother at the service.

Terron was buried at the St Mary’s Public Cemetery, Freeport.
