MINISTER of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan said the 1,000-megawatts generator is the start of a more efficient Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) for 2019, as more buses for the new year is expected to help move passengers quickly in and out of Port of Spain.

The new generator, commissioned today, will allow PTSC to continue running and serving the travelling public if there is no electricity and cost the corporation approximately $4 million. The generator comes with an automatic transfer switch to provide backup power for the entire South Quay compound, which includes the passenger loading areas, the bus fuelling station and the maxi taxi area.

Sinanan said, "This is basically the start of the new PTSC, and I say the new PTSC because we are going to embrace technology in 2019."

He said next year the PTSC hoped to have a fleet of 500 buses, the number required.

Currently it has over 250 buses. Sinanan wants to see it being the first choice for transport.

"I can see PTSC as being the number one mode of transportation – not public transportation. but transportation...I can see a lot of people opting to leave their vehicles at home and travelling with the PTSC."
