Granger wins Massy Foundation scholarship

MATTHAEUS Zidane Granger is this year’s successful applicant for the Massy Foundation Wilfred Sidney Knox Scholarship. The scholarship is named for an iconic Caribbean business leader who joined the ranks of Neal & Massy as a sales representative in 1953 and retired at the helm of one of the most successful business conglomerates in the region.

The scholarship rewards a young student who displays attributes capable of replicating such excellence through scholarship, enterprise and innovation.

Granger is an accomplished 20 year old sportsman and student who has represented TT as a member of the national Under-17 football team, played football for the secondary schools he attended, written a book on achieving success, and excelled at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

He has begun studies at the New York Institute of Technology in pursuit of a first Degree in Business Administration – Marketing.

It is an area in which he has long exhibited a strong interest. One impressive expression of such an interest was publication of his manual titled, Success: A Choice Away – Why Most People Fail.

In the publication, Granger identifies what he views as “the key principles which govern past, present and future successes.”

It is a perspective he has taken to his role as a sportsman, student and as someone with an interest in motivating people of his own generation.

He studied at both St Anthony’s College where he did his CXC examinations and at St Mary’s College where he performed impressively at CAPE.

Granger sees himself as taking advantage of an opportunity to “push myself to the next level of self-development.”

The strong interest in the field of business and entrepreneurship, his diligence, and his impressive accomplishments as a young man have impressed the Massy scholarship panel.

“This young man’s résumé tells me some very important things about him,” Knox said, “It speaks about someone who possesses the motivation, inspiration and commitment needed to achieve success in whatever endeavour he engages.

“My advice to him would be to continue upon his current path and to keep his eyes fixed on the future. It is his to take hold of. I am proud to have encountered such a fine, young man and I am sure he will return from his studies as a valuable asset to help move our country forward.”

Granger said he was extremely grateful to have received the scholarship. “I promise I will not let you, my family and my other supporters down...In my book I talk about having vision and acquiring the skills to move from visualisation to actualisation...It is my intention to be faithful to these commitments,” he said.

The Massy Foundation was formed in 1979 as expression of a commitment to focus attention on Corporate Social Responsibility and the achievement of excellence in a wide variety of public undertakings.
