Cops wounded in overnight incidents

A Special Reserve Police constable assigned to the Barataria Police Station was treated and discharged for a gunshot wound from a drive-by shooting near Mentor Alley, Laventille, last night.

Police said Andre Alexander was standing near his home at about 8.35 pm when a dark Nissan B14 drove by and a passenger shot him in the right leg.

A neighbour took him to the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The gunmen then went to the home of another policeman, Kimani Fraser, a short distance away, and shot at the roof of his house. Neighbours heard the gunfire and called the police.

Members of the Inter-Agency Task Force went to investigate.

Police are investigating whether the officers were targeted specifically by the gunmen.

In an unrelated incident, police said another policeman, Ian Alexander, was stabbed during a quarrel with a female relative at their Block 22, Laventille home. Alexander received some cuts and stabs, but none was life-threatening.

More as information becomes available.
