CAROLYN SEEPERSAD-BACHAN, leader of the Congress of the People (COP), warned in her Christmas message against modern versions of the biblical villain King Herod, who sought to kill Baby Jesus.

She said, “As we participate in this festive season of Christmas, let us reflect on the hope that the Christ Child brought to mankind, a hope that after more than 2,000 years still burns brightly.

“We are not immune to the proverbial Herod's of the day, those who would seek to have that light extinguished, those, who see this beautiful twin islands of TT as their personal kingdom.” Those Herods will do whatever is necessary to ensure the status quo continues.

“Herod did not seek peace, but sought to destroy the one who would be known as the Prince of Peace, and this is why we believe that we are in such a perilous and uncertain state.”

She said Christ made no distinction between rich or poor but gave all the same opportunity to live peacefully.

“The Christ Child also taught us to have hope in the midst of despair. Every citizen of TT craves such hope, a hope that a better tomorrow begins today.”

Seepersad-Bachan said the time to make that change is now.

“Let us be focused in our mission, strong in our belief and committed in our conviction that the journey that lies ahead for TTis one that will be led by people of integrity with transparency and good governance.

On behalf of her family and the Congress of the People she sent season's greetings and a merry Christmas to one and all.

"May God continue to bless our great nation, TT,” she wished.
