Still looking for Christmas or New Year’s presents? The gift for the gardener or the garden-lover in your life is hot off the press; here is the 25th anniversary publication from the Garden Club of Trinidad.

According to the Foreword, “The Garden Club was founded in 1993, born out of a passion for gardening among seven friends. Twenty-five years later this passion has endured, and the Club has grown to over 90 members. The Club and its members remain a repository of knowledge of horticulture in Trinidad and Tobago. Despite its relatively small size, The Garden Club has made enormous strides in the promotion of gardening and appreciation of horticulture, and it remains committed to environmental education, awareness and preservation.”

The book Gardening in Trinidad and Tobago, Our Style is an impressive collection of photographs of gardens and plants–bromeliads, orchids, heliconias, flowering trees–for tiny backyards as well as extensive cultivated spaces. The text is provided by Dr Chancy Bachan-Moll, a former president of the club and the book’s author. Photos were contributed by Peter Moll, Susan de Gannes, Michelle Jorsling, Jeannine Story among others; design by Marie-France Aqui.

It is our hope that this book finds its way into homes and offices across the country, so that The Garden Club of Trinidad can continue to build on its vision of educating and enlightening readers.”

Gardening in Trinidad and Tobago is an impressive coffee table book, 29 cm by 29 cm, 168 pages with 375 photographs. There are sections on Caribbean living; large and small gardens; shaded and water gardens; exotics and wildlife.
