McCartha "Calypso Rose" Linda Sandy-Lewis has constantly proven why she heads the calypso queendom.

The 78-year-old musician added to her illustrious list of achievements last year when her Far From Home album won the World Music Album of the Year at the 32nd annual French music awards, Les Victoires de la Musique. On December 10, she was awarded a Grand Prix Sacem for World Music.

Come next year, TT will have the chance to see the calypso queen in concert. Not only will 2019 see Rose host three concerts across TT on February 28, March 2 and 7 but she will also be recording another album "with a lot of surprises," a media release said.

The first concert will be held at National Academy for the Performing Arts (Napa), Port of Spain, on February 28; next will be at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (Sapa), San Fernando, on March 2, and the third concert is scheduled for Tobago's Shaw Park Complex, Scarborough, on March 7.

The release said that 2017, "was a landmark year for her Majesty... and yes, she is adulated in France, where her music is listened to by hundreds of thousands of Europeans and her concerts are sold-out to huge crowds outside the Caribbean diaspora. She is a phenomenon and her life story, from a village in Tobago to the hearts of the French people after a career in music spanning over 50 years, is surely one for the history books."

It said 2018 solidified Rose's "celebrity status in France and other European countries, where she released a second album and continued touring to sold-out crowds" in Europe.

The highlight of the musician's year was her "intimate performance" on Mustique island where she performed, with Prince William and Catherine, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge among the audience, the release said.

It added that on Carnival Thursday, backed by Sokah the Band, Napa "will come alive with the energy and charisma of Calypso Rose" who will be joined on stage by some of her favourite "children."

"Calypso Rose's management team, Jean Michel Gibert and Lorraine O’Connor are teaming up with Randy Glasgow Productions Ltd to present a fantastic event of high quality at the best concert venues in the country. We thank especially the Ministry of Community Development the Arts and Culture and the Tobago House of Assembly for consistently supporting one of TT’s best ambassadors," the release said.
