Five granted bail in baby sale case

A PILOT and his wife were among five people who appeared before a Tunapuna magistrate Thursday morning to face charges of arranging an unlawful adoption of a baby. Caribbean Airlines pilot Patrick Borel, his wife Daniela Parainello, attorneys Kijana Da Silva and Annabelle Sooklal-Boynes and translator Adrianna Ragbir appeared before magistrate Adrian Darmanie in the Tunapuna Magistrates Third Court.

All five were granted bail. Borel and his wife were represented by attorneys Sean Cazabon, who argued that his clients had no criminal record and had been fully cooperative with police.

Court prosecutors raised some concern when they learned that Borel was a pilot but said they would not ask him to surrender his passport but said he would have to make his flight schedule available to the court and would have to report to the Arouca police station every two weeks as part of the bail conditions.

His wife received similar conditions. The five pleaded not guilty to the charge and are expected to reappear in court on January 16.
