TT Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath speaks to the media outside Hall of Justice in Port of Spain after his executive won a court ruling vs National League representatives on Monday.

THE EXECUTIVE body of the TT Cricket Board (TTCB) is expected to meet as early as this weekend to discuss plans to move forward.

On Monday at the High Court, Justice Jacqueline Wilson dismissed a claim by the six-member National League group consisting of Dinanath Ramnarine, Daren Ganga, Samuel Badree, Clint Pamphille, Anil Kamal and the late Camal Basdeo.

In 2016, the group got an injunction which stopped the TTCB elections which was due to take place in October that year. The court was asked to address the TTCB’s constitution, specifically Article 4 (1) which gives its executive members 12 outgoing votes.

Justice Wilson in her 15-page decision said the TTCB had the right to decide what rules it considered to be in the best interest of its members and the sport in general.

She added that there was nothing to suggest they were unfair or deviated from established principles of democracy or public policy.

After the ruling on Monday, TTCB president Azim Bassarath said, “You would know, sponsors did not want to come along. Sponsors would not want to be associated with something that is before the court. So definitely, two years were wasted and cricket is the one that suffered.”

Yesterday, Bassarath pointed out that the TTCB executive will have to discuss how they plan to move on from this scenario.

“The executive will have to meet. What I said (on Monday), I want to leave that as it is for the time being until we sit down as an executive and come up with a proposal in moving forward.”

The TTCB president added, “I am looking at maybe over the weekend, if the executive can meet. Some of the members (are) away but I want to meet over the weekend to put certain things in place.”
