Sandals, political football of choice

THE EDITOR: Will we as a nation continue to sweat the small stuff during 2019?The toting of vast amounts of petty negatives when we should be embracing ideas to move our tourism industry forward sees Tobago dying by its own hands.

Tobagonians refuse to admit that falling tourism arrivals have nothing to do with the sea bridge. Twelve ferries leaving every hour like a bus service will not make Tobago a more viable, lucrative destination.

Tobago has nothing extra to tempt an influx of high-paying visitors. What else is there for Tobago to be independently wealthy other than the building of the Sandals Resort?

Somebody, step forward and give an alternative, please.

Tobago appears to be consumed with warring personalities and entities. The wars between the Tobago House of Assembly and the hotel and other business owners make for a toxic political climate. It is dangerous, small-minded pussyfooting going on about commitment to the Sandals Resort in Tobago.

People seeking to complete their 15 minutes of fame arguing about MOUs, the flexing of political muscle, and the naked fear of progress have all contributed to an image of death in the water for Sandals and a Tobago economy lost to foolish personal posturings.

Cowards die many times before their deaths. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

When will we rise above the politics of self-interest for the good of all citizens in Trinidad and especially in Tobago?
