Carenage man to stand trial for murder

A CARENAGE man is to be tried for the 2017 murder of Nekyon Anthony Jones.

Miguel Roberts, 31, was committed to stand trial by Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earle-Caddle in the Port of Spain Eighth Magistrates Court.

He was charged with Jones’s murder and robbing his victim’s mother, Maureen Gill-Jones.

State attorneys Kelly Thompson and Kezia Gray-Birkette prosecuted at the preliminary inquiry.

Gill-Jones, 66, was at her Benedictine Street, Carenage, home on September 18, 2017, when she was accosted by an armed intruder in the house.

She called out to her son who, when he saw the gunman, ran out of the house. The gunman chased him into the street and shot him several times in the back,

Roberts was charged by WPC Lashley, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 1, on October 26, 2017.
