Scrap iron dealer charged with murder

THE suspect in the murder of Claxton Bay scrap iron dealer Neil Narad Bhagaloo has been charged and will appear before a San Fernando magistrate today.

Last week, legal officer PC Kyrn Lewis of the Homicide Bureau Region III sought advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Late Friday evening, police received instructions to charge the suspect who is also a scrap iron dealer, 36, and from Claxton Bay. PC Rahim, who along with Cpl Deo investigated the case, laid the charge.

Bhagaloo, also called "Jacko", 33, was shot multiple times in the head at his family’s home at Teak Drive, Macaulay, Claxton Bay, at about 8 pm on December 6. On the night of the killing, relatives said they saw gunmen in the yard and assumed they were police in plain-clothes.

The father of two opened the front door but did not get a chance to step outside as the men began shooting. Relatives and neighbours heard more than ten gunshots and later found Bhagaloo’s body on the floor. No one else was hurt.

The killers ran through some nearby bush and left in a white van that was parked on the shoulder of the southbound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway.

Earlier this year police from the Child Protection Unit charged him for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl. A San Fernando magistrate granted him bail and the matter was pending.
