ATTORNEY General Faris Al-Rawi’s "genuine wish" for Christmas and the new year is that this country finds hope.

Hope is something, he said, that has to be seen and felt.

"Hope is something that has to carry you on a journey to believing that it can get you where you want to go. We have enough that is right in this country to focus upon. Far too often, we focus on the negatives," Al-Rawi said.

He made the comments on Saturday at his San Fernando West constituency office.

"We think good choices equal to hope. Making a good choice for the Commissioner of Police has brought hope to this country. Making a good choice in the manner in which we change the economy and manage oil and gas, as you see on Friday with BP signing a deal of US $1.8 billion; that gives us hope that our economy begins to grow."

Al-Rawi was referring to the agreement between BP TT and the Government for two energy projects.

The AG also challenges citizens "to pay it forward".

"I hope that our people can learn to pay it forward. Don’t pay back a favour that someone did for you. Pay a random gift of kindness forward to somebody who you have no relationship with. To the people in society who are comfortable, remember those who are not comfortable. Stretch yourselves in paying something forward," said Al-Rawi.

He said if each person does an act of kindness and manage to carry it together, this country will be a beautiful place. He predicts that 2019 will be a result-oriented year saying the Government is confident of what it must deliver.

"We understand that people are no longer interested in just the promise, they want to see the results."

About 900 children from his constituency received gifts from the constituency. Al-Rawi also presented wheelchairs to two elderly people of the St Vincent De Paul Home for the Aged in San Fernando.
