A 24-YEAR-OLD man is expected to appear before a Siparia magistrate today charged for the murder of Keron "Popcorn" Cooper. The accused, who lives in Fyzabad, was charged on Saturday by WPC Rishma Bickram of the Homicide Investigations Bureau (Region III).

Last Friday, under the supervision of ASP Winchester and Insp Corrie, legal officer PC Kyrn Lewis submitted a file on the investigation to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Deputy DPP Joan Honore-Paul later advised police to lay the charge.

The suspect was arrested on December 4, following a shootout with police for which three people were charged and appeared in court. At about 6 pm on October 8, 24-year-old Cooper was shot inside One Love Bar along Guapo Main Road in Fyzabad during a suspected robbery.

Police said Cooper often wore excessive gold jewellery especially whenever he was liming. He lived at East Street in Fyzabad. Eyewitnesses reported to police that bandits entered, pointed guns at customers and announced a hold-up. The bandits robbed patrons of cash, cell phones, jewellery and other valuables.

Cooper tried to fight off the gunmen when they came for his chains but was shot. Cooper died later at the Siparia District Health Facility. Cooper had several narco-related matters pending in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court.
