TEXT me on the sex island party.

This was the call to the country yesterday from Police Commissioner Gary Griffith as he called on law-abiding citizens with knowledge of the highly publicised Sex Island party to pass on the information to him so he can act and prevent lawlessness.

Griffith specifically wants to know the location, date and time of the party, which is advertised as a sex party replete with women and drugs. He said informants can text him at 482-(GARY). The top cop issued the call via a press release yesterday, in which he said he was still unsure if the advertised sex party was real or a hoax.

The party is supposed to start some time today and run into this weekend. Social media has been abuzz with the story after an American media outlet, the NY Post, reported that an island off the north coast of Trinidad would be the venue for the sex romp. Bookings can only be made online via the organiser Good Girls Co's social media pages including its FB and Instagram accounts. Only 30 tickets are available and they were said to be "going fast."

Griffith said despite the lack of information, measures have been put in place to put a stop to this event if it is in fact taking place. Both police and immigration sources said yesterday they are working closely with the Coast Guard to monitor Monos and Gaspar Grande islands, both of which have numerous private jetties.

Sources said yachts can arrive at the two islands if either of them is the party venue. Newsday understands that the National Security helicopter and police-owned drones will be used from today and all through the weekend to monitor activities on the five islands.

A fisherman from the northwestern peninsula said he has observed in the past parties at Monos Island attended mainly by people who appeared to be foreigners. But the area is not well lit so fishermen are not privy to what takes place at these parties. The fisherman said there should be more surveillance of some of these islands off the northwestern peninsula to ascertain what takes there.

A team from the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) will be on standby from today to go quickly to any island to stop the sex party.

On Tuesday, National Security Minister Stuart Young issued a media release saying: "I have seen the reports of a suggestion that there is to be some event taking place at an island off of the north of Trinidad, carded as a ‘Sex Island Party.’

"I have asked law enforcement and Immigration to monitor this and to make it known that such an event and the suggested illegal actions to take place will NOT be tolerated by TT. The suggested illegality of drug use and prostitution is of concern to me and I have requested that positive action be taken to ascertain whether there is any veracity to the suggested event and to be extra vigilant to prevent any such event taking place.”

Yesterday, a yachtie from west Trinidad said all the other yachties he spoke with said they were aware of the sex party through social media, but none had been invited to this party and they had no information about its location.

The man said he heard in the past from other people that similar parties may have taken place previously but he had no evidence to support this.

He said, “It is a ridiculous thing. It should not be happening. It is illegal in Trinidad, if this sex party does take place. I believe the police should ban this party, they should stop it and it should not be happening and it is reflecting very bad on this country it is depicting us as lawless,” the yachtie said.

National Security sources said they believed the information about the sex party going public may result in its being cancelled.
