Woman back in court charged with shooting at police

SAMANTHA KALOO, the woman accused of robbery and shooting at police last week Tuesday, appeared yesterday in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court for gun and ammunition possession.

Senior Magistrate Cherill-Ann Antoine, read charges to Kaloo, 24, that on the north-bound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy highway near Corinth Settlement's surveillance bay, she shot at PC Arvin Boodram. Also, at the same place, she shot at PC Teluck Bhairosingh.

Antoine read further charges to Kaloo that together with two others, on the northbound lane near St Clements Village, she was in possession of a Smith and Wesson revolver and five rounds of ammunition.

Kaloo first appeared on Wednesday in the Siparia Magistrates Court with Justin Cardinez and Shakeel Cummings, for robbing a proprietor of cash, cigarettes, a cell phone and laptop at Timital Junction, Penal.

Answering questions yesterday put to her by Antoine, Kaloo said she works for the Kenson Group of Companies as a process operator.

Police prosecutor Ramdath Phillip, in objecting to bail, told the magistrate Kaloo has a pending case in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court for stealing a car. He referred to a letter from the prison authorities that she must be returned, after yesterday’s court proceedings, to the prison in Arouca.

Antoine read two additional charges to Kaloo that she was in possession of the gun and the ammunition for the purpose of endangering life.

The magistrate remanded her into custody until next week Monday when the police prosecutor is expected to produce her criminal record.
