LATT sends CJ report to PM

THE Law Association (LATT) has approached the Prime Minister with its report for him to determine whether the impeachment clause of the Constitution should be invoked against Chief Justice Ivor Archie.

President of the LATT, Douglas Mendes,SC, confirmed that the report of its committee,established to investigate allegations of misconduct against the CJ was sent yesterday.

However, at the post Cabinet press conference yesterday, National Security and Communications Minister Stuart Young said Rowley was not yet in receipt of the LATT’s report, but when he does get it, he will seek legal advice on it.

On Tuesday, the association’s members voted 150 in favour of and 32 against sending the report to the prime minister to use its findings to consider whether Section 137 of the Constitution can be triggered to establish a tribunal to investigate the allegations against Archie.

Under Section 137 (3) of the Constitution, the Prime Minister has the power to advise President Paula-Mae Weekes to appoint a tribunal to investigate the allegations against Archie, and the President can refer the question of whether a judge should be removed from office to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
