Minister of Tourism Randall Mitchell this afternoon dismissed reports of the "Sex Island" party as a hoax and said the evidence to support claims that it would be hosted in TT was 'flimsy.'

Speaking with Newsday Mitchell said he would not spend much time speaking about the reports as they were unfounded and he expressed scepticism over reports that event organisers claimed TT had hosted similar events before.

"I think it's a hoax, it's obvious I don't think the promoter of a party which endorses criminal behaviour or contrary to the laws of TT will indicate to the (New York) Post that such an event is planned in a specific jurisdiction and not expect some response.

"When you look at the website itself, it looks inauthentic, so I don't intend to spend a lot of time thinking about it because I don't think it's real at all. The Ministry of Tourism cannot and will not support any activity contrary to the laws."

Responding to claims that similar events were held in TT in the past Mitchell said these claims could easily be dismissed as hearsay.
