OWTU calls for pension, medical plans for ex-Petrotrin workers

EXECUTIVE members of the Oilfield Workers' Trade Union yesterday met with ex-Petrotrin workers and discussed making a public appeal for government to introduce a pension and medical plan for them.

Over 300 former workers turned up at the OWTU headquarters, Circular Road, San Fernando, where OWTU's education and research officer Ozzie Warwick spoke to them.

Warricksaid Energy Minister Franklin Khan must address the issue, despite Khan's statement in Parliament that the now defunct Petrotrin had no funds. He said, “We will be issuing a document outlining lies by the energy minister concerning the casual workers of the oil company."

Also addressing the workers were the union's vice president Carlton Gibson and executive members Chandrasain Ramsingh, Richard Lee, Ricky Benny, Jennifer Charles and Himraj Basdeo.

The union plans to meet with the ex-workers again.
