Businessman robbed of cash, bullfinch

A Sangre Grande businessman was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday afternoon of cash and an exotic bird valued at $5,000.

Around 5 pm Narine Singh 61 was at Dolls Mini Mart at Sangre Chiquito, Sangre Grande, when a gunman of East Indian descent entered and announced a robbery.

Singh was ordered to hand over $2,000 in cash and a black bullfinch in a cage in the minimart. The bullfinch and cage were valued at $5,000 and the bird was Singh's pet.

The devastated businessman called the police who went to the crime scene and took CCTV footage. Eastern Division police believe it will lead them to the thief. They warned the public it is an offence to buy a stolen item such as the bird.
