UPDATE:

NOT only have “Sex Island” parties happened in TT before, but sex parties are nothing new, according to a local organiser.

Speaking with Newsday yesterday, an organiser said he and his friends regularly throw sex and nude parties and queried why some people had an issue with consenting adults having casual sex with their fellow partygoers.

The local organiser said he and his committee throw adult nude parties but do not solicit prostitutes, and while there are women and men working who are fully nude, none of them is paid to have sex with the patrons. He added that local parties can cost between $300-$500 for men and $100 for women who are clothed, with free entry for the naked. The only rule that is strictly followed is “no cameras,” so patrons are free to do anything with anyone and return home without someone taking their photograph.

“This is not no strange thing,” he said. “We had a nude boat ride already.

“I don’t know why people acting so naive about it. We are adults, living in 2018. These things happen.

“In my parties nothing is illegal: no prostitution, no drugs, nothing. Apart from the prostitutes and drugs, it’s no big deal, sex parties is normal thing. If you not into it, then ignore it and don’t let it bother you, and if you into it, find a way to attend.”

One of the organisers of the Sex Island four-day, three-night “sex-travaganza” beginning on Friday and ending Monday told Newsday they had held parties in the country before. A New York Post story claimed such parties had been held here for a year, and this one, which promised its patrons drugs and prostitutes, and costs between US$4,500 and US$6,000 per person, had been given the “go-ahead” by local authorities.

This has since been rejected by both Police Commissioner Gary Griffith and National Security Minister Stuart Young.

In a media release, Young said: “I have seen the reports of a suggestion that there is to be some event taking place at an island off of the north of Trinidad, carded as a ‘Sex Island Party.’ I have asked law enforcement and Immigration to monitor this and to make it known that such an event and the suggested illegal actions to take place will NOT be tolerated by TT. The suggested illegality of drug use and prostitution is of concern to me and I have requested that positive action be taken to ascertain whether there is any veracity to the suggested event and to be extra vigilant to prevent any such event taking place.”

Griffith was quoted in the NY Post as telling local TV station CNC3: “Before the first joint is lighted, before the first lap dance is had, that will never happen..”

The Sex Island organiser said he would not divulge which island off Trinidad’s mainland will host the party, which will include Latin American prostitutes and illegal drugs.

But on the authorities’ planned clampdown, a representative for Sex Island told the NY Post no government official would tell the media they welcomed Sex Island with open arms.

“We are not worried about having the event in Trinidad because we had the event last year and a private event every other month in Trinidad without issues,” the organiser added.

In a What’sApp interview with Newsday, the Sex Island organiser said they do not supply any drugs for their patrons. The man, who had a Colombian-registered cellphone number, added that a 16-year-old who won a golden ticket to the weekend was not yet in the country in preparation for the event.

In a UK Daily Mail article, the teen claimed he used his father’s credit card to enter the competition, unknown to his father, and was granted permission to attend.

Sex with a minor is illegal in TT, as are prostitution and illegal drug use. The teen claimed he was a virgin and was eager to lose his virginity.

Former health minister and MP for San Juan, Dr Fuad Khan said he has been lobbying to legalise prostitution and hopes Griffith will support his claim.

Khan, in an interview with i95, said: “I am trying my best to decriminalise prostitution because it will decrease human trafficking.

It is like PH drivers: it is illegal but they are running the route as it is. Prostitution is taking place all over the world, and it’s no different here.

Mr Griffith is my good friend and he has an open mind and I’m sure in conversation that he will realise that this is something to be looked at.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

THE sex party that is to take place somewhere off Trinidad's mainland is not the first this country has seen according to an organiser.

In a WhatsApp interview with Newsday earlier, a male organiser said they had sex parties in the country before. The man did not disclose where in the past the sex parties were and did not say which island this one will take place.

The weekend of drugs and debauchery is scheduled to begin on Friday and end next Monday with a 16-year-old winning a golden ticket to the event, which promised each of the 30 males at least two women to themselves.

Both Police Commissioner Gary Griffith and National Security Minister Stuart Young have spoken out against the intention to have the party vowing to stop it. The organiser said they do not facilitate the drugs for party goers but if participants walk with their own, then it's their decision.

In a media release issued earlier, Young stated: "I have seen the reports of a suggestion that there is to be some event taking place at an island off of the North of Trinidad, carded as a ‘Sex Island Party’. I have asked law enforcement and Immigration to monitor this and to make it known that such an event and the suggested illegal actions to take place will NOT be tolerated by Trinidad and Tobago.

The suggested illegality of drug use and prostitution is of concern to me and I have requested that positive action be taken to ascertain whether there is any veracity to the suggested event and to be extra vigilant to prevent any such event taking place."
