FORMER national captain Dwight Yorke has paid tribute to his past teammate Michael McComie who died on Tuesday.

McComie, 46, was a member of the TT team with Yorke, who under the guidance of coach Bertille St Clair, qualified for the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship in Portugal.

Yorke, currently in Dubai, said he was heartbroken to hear the bad news about someone he viewed as a friend.

"Not too long ago, I heard about my good friend Michael McComie’s passing. It was a very, very sad day for me. Obviously my thoughts and my prayers are with his family. Michael and I played football at a very young age. He became a very good friend of mine over the years. Of course I was his captain when we played at the World Cup in 1991 and he always greets me as a ‘skipper’ when he sees me. Today, football has lost a dear friend. I have lost a dear friend. He will be very sadly missed. I just want to reach out to his family to say I am thinking about them and hopefully if I can be of any help just feel free to be in touch. I’m here in Dubai at the moment but my prayers and thoughts are with you all," he said.

McComie's funeral will be held tomorrow at Holy Cross College, Arima, at 2pm. There will be a private cremation after.
