Man charged with stealing forklift

VAUGHN ALEXANDER, 42, of Embacadere, San Fernando, pleaded guilty this morning in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court to stealing a forklift. The equipment belongs to Aleem Ali's warehouse in Gulf View, La Romaine, senior magistrate Cherril-Ann Antoine told Alexander.

The charge alleged that Alexander stole the US$5,900 forklift between September 15 and November 28.

Asked if he understood what is meant by the plea of guilty, Alexander answered, "Yes maam, I'm sure."

However, Antoine told Alexander that it seemed he was unsure. She recorded a not guilty plea on his behalf and remanded him into custody until Wednesday. He was advised that he should think about his plea long and hard.

Alexander was advised, however, of his right to apply to a judge in chambers for bail.
