Senior members of the TT Coast Guard say drug traffickers have been able to smuggle large quantities of cocaine and marijuana into the country because they are better organised in terms of technology and the way they conduct their business.

Officers estimate that there are 91 illegal ports of entry in TT.

On Tuesday police searched a Westmoorings apartment and seized cocaine and marijuana valued $15 million.

Intelligence sources said the drugs entered the country on Monday through an illegal port of entry behind a gas station in the West.

According to Coast Guard sources they have heard of the area being used as a drop off point but the Coast Guard has not been able to make any seizures there because the drug runners are well organised and may be in possession of knowledge where the patrols are when drugs are supposed to come in.
