The public will have to wait until the early part of January 2019 to see upgrades to the statue of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love, with her son Eros said Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez.

Speaking with Newsday today Martinez said when doing restorative work on historical pieces, sometimes unexpected work comes up.

“By New Year it will be done. You know how when you are doing jobs there are things that would turn up that you wouldn’t expect? That is what happened. There is a reservoir and you know when the water spouts it falls in the fountain inside…that is porous which means when the water leaks out and goes underneath the fountain it weakens the base."
