Freeport man killed near bar

A night out liming with friends ended tragically for a Freeport man who was shot and killed near a bar on Wednesday. Dead is Ricky Chankerdial.

Police said Chankerdial was standing on the Arena Road in Freeport when a car drove by. Eyewitnesses said a man in the car pointed a gun at Chankerdial and fired several shots. He died on the spot. A doctor viewed the body and ordered that it be taken to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy.

Investigators believe Chankerdial's murder was a hit. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from a nearby bar. Up to late yesterday, they said several people in the area were still being questioned.

Homicide Region Three police are investigating.
