INVESTIGATORS at the scene of the sting operation at Regents Gardens apartment complex, Westmoorings, yesterday confirmed that one of two women arrested for drug trafficking is the second cousin of Police Commissioner Gary Griffith.

Griffith, asked to verify this, said he was prepared to perform his duties and enforce the law, even if it meant arresting and charging his own relatives.

"I don't check relationship. Regardless of who it is close or distant family, friend, associate or enemy. If you break the law, I will take you down," Griffith said. It was also confirmed that the other female suspect arrested, is the former stepdaughter of a government minister.

In a release issued yesterday, National Security Minister and Communications Minister Stuart Young distanced himself from this suspect, saying that no relative of his was arrested.

"A young lady who has been arrested is a relative of my former partner," Young said. "I have no connection or relation to the young woman in question. I will emphasise that no one is above the law and anyone who breaks the law will face the consequences," the Minister said.
