After racist FB post, Tribe parts ways with model

DEAN Ackin, leader of the Tribe Inc, yesterday distanced the band from disparaging statements made in a Facebook video posting by one of its frontline models, who has been closely associated with the promotion of the Harts Carnival Band subsidiary.

He said: “The position of Harts Carnival Band and the wider group of bands in the Tribe family is straight-forward and uncompromising - we do not and will not tolerate any kind of racist or prejudicial language or behaviour. The recent video of a young lady using offensively racist language does not reflect our values. Her utterances have caused great distress and more importantly hurt to many.”

He added that as a mas entity they have worked with hundreds of models and the young lady in question is one model who was used for an advertising campaign.

Ackin said: “Despite the statements being made in her private capacity and her subsequent public apology, we have taken the position to immediately remove all images of this model from all our advertising platforms, including the website, social media and physical signage.”

In the video posting, the model was heard saying: “Hey guys it's the new n****rina, I'm a c**lie,” while giggling all through the video posted on Facebook.
