13 minutes to renew permit

THE EDITOR: Too often we magnify the wrongs in our public service and reduce or dismiss the great work that a lot of them do. Let us applaud our own professionals. It took me 13 minutes yesterday morning to renew my driving permit at the San Fernando Licensing Office.

Everyone I encountered, from the filing clerk to the photographer, was smiling, soft-spoken, friendly and helpful. What I call the Trinidad brand of good customer service.

The photography office showed much class with its Christmas decorations, so much so that you could feel the spirit of the season in the air. The clerks there were all in work mood, a well dressed clerk even sweeping away some debris. Imagine that!
