THE Shaw Park Cultural Complex is set to come alive on Sunday with Prime Minister and political leader of the PNM Dr Keith Rowley set to address the party at its 48th annual national convention.

Speaking with Newsday Tobago on Wednesday, PNM Tobago Council’s PRO, Kwesi DesVignes said a number of Trinidad party groups will be sailing across for the convention.

“We expecting a capacity audience... the theme ‘Providing Opportunities for a Brighter Future’ is very apt at this time as the Prime Minister would be making several key announcements around that particular theme,” he said.

The PRO also confirmed that a vessel has been booked to transport party group members to Tobago for the convention. It is reported that the sailing leaves Trinidad at 5am, with a return sailing carded at the end of the convention, adding the sailing has been fully booked.

A number of longstanding PNMites, including former MPs, top party officials and stalwarts will be honoured at the event.

“... there is a lot of excitement as a major part of the convention is going to be the awarding of 20 PNM stalwarts, persons who have been the backbone of the party throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Six Tobagonians would be honoured. In the award ceremony, for the very first time, we’ll have the PNM medal of honour which would be the highest medal of honour for the awardees,” he said.

The agenda for the morning session is reserved only for delegates and party members, and includes the adoption of reports and debate on resolutions. He said there are some reports to be tabled for the approval of the convention and four resolutions for adoption.

DesVignes said registration is carded for 8 am, while the conference would be called to order at 10 am.
