LEADER of the Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union (SWWTU) Michael Annisette said he was disappointed over claims on social media that his son Duane King was a gang leader and drug lord. Annisette told Newsday yesterday the family is struggling to cope with King’s wounding and blasted reports being circulated via WhatsApp that his son led a criminal lifestyle. He said these were not factual and that King was a legitimate businessman in his Cocorite community.

“What I said, I will continue to say, which is it is unfortunate that there is a negative narrative being circulated, where people paint him (King) as a drug lord or a gangster, which is so far from the truth. It is unfortunate but that’s life.

“I have learned in this life that darkness could never conquer light, and in the end the truth will always reveal itself.

“I have the utmost confidence that all the negativity and attempts to paint a picture to justify these actions will come to naught at the end of the day.”

Newsday was told the family was devastated as King continues to receive treatment for gunshot wounds he received during Tuesday’s early morning attack while driving on the Beetham Highway.

They said doctors were “doing their best” to treat him.

Investigations are continuing.
