Fireworks a serious danger

THE EDITOR: Every Divali and New Year’s Day the Mount Hope hospital and other hospitals and health centres across the country have to deal with people, especially young people, being seriously hurt by fireworks.

How long will the Government allow this madness to continue before it bans this dangerous practice?

People who use fireworks carelessly can be severely injured and can even kill others. Fireworks can burn down houses and destroy families, frighten children and the elderly, cause bush fires, and terrify pets.

Noise from fireworks causes many people great distress and discomfort, especially as fireworks can sound like gunfire or a bomb. The noise can also cause deafness, or aggravate a nervous condition.

When will TT wake up and become a civilised country?
