Cricketers following the money

THE EDITOR: The West Indies cricket team continues its woeful campaign in India. Following the Tests and ODIs it has now lost the first T20, making a miserable 109 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

It could be argued that the team may be trying its best but it obviously lacks consistency. One never knows what to expect on any given day.

The thing is the West Indies does not lack cricketing talent but that talent has been unable to click together consistently.

However, I am not convinced every player is committed 100 per cent to Caribbean cricket, what with the lure of “big dollars” in the growing T20 market.

Therefore we will always have the problem of fielding the best team in any given series once the dollars are on offer, for many of our boys are simply following the money.

Well it is said that money answers all things and that wealth is power, so can we really blame them? They, like the rest of us in our 8 to 4 jobs, are also thinking about retirement.
