Support CoP, service

THE EDITOR: It is with mixed emotions that I read and listen to the various commentators on the recent police killing. To add icing on the cake, some even went as far as to say that we are fast approaching a police state. How ludicrous!

Lets take the worst case scenario – which is preferable under the present circumstances – a police state or a lawless state as is right now? People are living under a self-imposed curfew. Homes are barricaded with wrought iron of every imaginable design. Robbery and assault of individuals including the aged and helpless, heists on businesses and the list of infractions continues. Is this the sweet TT we once knew?

We now have a commissioner who is both visual and vocal and leading by example. He is taking the fight to the criminal elements and yet he is bombarded with all manner of negativity from certain elements. We are all aware that criminality is a wide-ranging activity but murders and robberies are the two pernicious aspects that hit home immediately and forcefully.

We are also mindful that there are rotten eggs in the Police Service as is in all other organisations. Those officers might be trigger happy for one reason or the other but if a squad is going about their duties and are met with fire power what are they supposed to do first? Take an inventory of the people and ask that the innocent ones move apart?

One becomes a criminal by association – show me your friends. So my people lets give Gary and the Police Service the support and necessary encouragement that are urgently needed at this time. Christmas and Carnival are fast approaching and the criminal elements are planning their nefarious moves. We have to be one step ahead. Blessings to all.
