Publish list of schol winners

THE EDITOR: The Minister of Education Anthony Garcia said on numerous occasions back in 2016 that it was his "opinion" that there was bias in the award of scholarships under the People’s Partnership government. In fact, so much so, he went on to say that he "stands by his statement.”

What I would like to find out from the goodly minister is why wasn’t the list of scholarship winners published in the media for 2018. I don’t want to hear any foolish story about you’re protecting the privacy of parents and that parents don’t want the names of their children published.

When the PNM does stuff like this in privacy, it leads one to think that there was some measure of collusion in the award of scholarships. We already are aware of the “slush fund” where more than 60 million dollars was given out under another a previous government so that unqualified people and friends of the party in power got scholarships without any accountability or advertisements.

In this day and age everyone knows everyone. When a person is awarded a scholarship and that person got two grade IIs, everyone knows. Please Mr. Garcia, don’t take us for fools...publish the names, because it's easy in 2018, to go to the Freedom of Information Act (thanks Mr Panday). And it's going to be very embarrassing to find out that secret scholarships are still being given out in 2018.
