Unexpected delight at Immigration

THE EDITOR: Yesterday morning my husband and I had a 10 am appointment at the Immigration Office in Frederick Street, Port of Spain to apply for renewal of our passports. Although we had all our documents in order, we were almost expecting a lengthy process, based on past experience.

I’m delighted to say that the experience turned out to be anything but! We arrived early and a delightful young lady took our applications, checked them and directed us to sit in the waiting area.

At three minutes to ten, we were called by the Immigration Officer dealing with our applications who was smiling, helpful and extremely efficient. By 10.10 am, we were through, with our receipts for collection of the new passports. The officer also made us aware that, since we had an appointment, she would take our photographs right there and we need not have gone to the trouble of having them done externally.

I would like to thank all the staff at the Immigration Department for making this a truly painless occasion and to congratulate them on the cheerful, courteous and helpful way they dealt with us and the other members of the public who were there at the same time.
