OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has thanked all those who assisted flood victims over the past two weeks.

However, she said more must be done.

Addressing Divali celebrations at her Siparia constituency office on Saturday night, Persad-Bissessar urged people to continue to assist flood victims in whatever way they can.

“People living in Madras, Kelly Village, Warren, Caroni, St Helena, El Carmen, Las Lomas, were badly affected by flooding and they are in great need at this time,” she said.

She said workers of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation will be teaming up with volunteers to assist with the clean-up of the affected areas in the coming days.

“This is a time of the year when families, friends and neighbours from different religious and cultural backgrounds come together in fellowship in celebration of Divali. We reflect in prayer today and continue doing what we can to help those in need,” she said.

Persad-Bissessar joined other Opposition parliamentarians and members of her constituency for Lakshmi Puja which was conducted by Pundit Abhenanand Persad.
