Congrats Virat, run machine

THE EDITOR: It gives me a great sense of pride and honour, on a sporting note, in highlightning the super cricket run achievements of Indian Captain/batsman Virat Kohli aka - "King Kohli".

During the thrilling tied second One Day International between hosts India and our very own West Indies, the 29-year old player broke cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's record of fastest to 10,000 ODI career runs - 259 innings to Kohli's 205. Kohli is the fastest of the 13 men with 10,000 ODI career runs.

Kohli achieved quite a few records that went unnoticed by our local cricketing fraternity - amongst which in main - highest average for 2018 - 149 in 11 trips to the middle - 1,046 runs. As an avid cricket follower - I was able to unearth this amazing cricket stat - only eight players have achieved 50 or more centuries in their International careers and six out of the eight players with 50 career centuries are retired. Only Hashim Amla and Kohli are still active in cricket.

The eight are Sachin Tendulkar - 100 (India); Ricky Ponting - 71 (Australia); Kumar Sangakkara - 63 (Sri Lanka); Jacques Kallis - 62 (South Africa); Virat Kohli - 61 (India); Hashim Amla - 54 (South Africa); Mahela Jayawardene - 54 (Sri Lanka) and our very own Brian Charles Lara - 53.

I personally believe that on a global cricketing note - the stellar and record-breaking achievement by this 29-year old Indian player is worth the highlight and adulation. Again congrats to Virat Kohli - irrefutably the world's premier batsman.
