Families evacuated in Greenvale

Families are tonight being evacuated from Greenvale Park, La Horquetta where floodwaters have risen to the height of the rooftops of their homes.

Emergency crews from the Defence Force and Fire Services are moving residents to the La Horquetta Regional Complex and Pinto Community Centre.

TV6 is reporting that 150 people have been evacuated and 300 people are still stranded.

On Facebook, Kwasi Robinson, former councillor for Wallerfield/La Horquetta appealed to those in the community to assist Greenvale residents. He said they needed pampers, formula and baby bottles.

On one Twitter post, it was reported that some people climbed their roofs to safety but this could not be confirmed.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Office of Disaster Preparedness ODPM posted messages and photos on social media about the scale of flooding in Greenvale.

There were unconfirmed reports about residents in Aripo also been stranded and at risk of landslides.
