A whole month for calypso?

THE EDITOR: October is Calypso History Month in TT. Is it fair to devote an entire month to calypso? Should we celebrate calypso throughout the entire year? When we set aside one month, does that give us license to neglect calypso for the other eleven months?

When we celebrate Calypso History Month we -

* Honor great TT calypsonians.

* Appreciate the privileges we have gained.

* Highlight the best of TT history and culture.

* Create an awareness for all people.

* Are reminded that Calypso History Month is our month.

Excessive historicization of the neglect of calypso is as oppressive as forgetting. Let us honor the neglected accomplishments of TT'S Calypso.

In my humble opinion the best calypso for pan is "Pan in A minor." AV take us out in song: "We cyar love without money; We cyar make love on hungry belly; AV you are the one I am dreaming of; You are my turtledove...But no money no love."
